A movie adaptation of the classic Yangju Opera Romance of the Nobleman premiered in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, on April 16.

More than a simple transfer from stage to screen, the movie is actually a milestone for Yangju Opera. It is the first of its kind to use Ultra HD, or 4K technology, which has four times the resolution of high definition.

Yao Yunfeng, who attended the premiere, said the movie was enjoyable, impressive, and enlightening.

"With 4K technology, I can clearly capture the performers' movements, gestures, and even micro expressions," Yao exclaimed, "hence I can become more immersed in the show."

The high-definition display was not the only update the show received.

From revising the script and staging scenes to shooting and post-processing, the production team has poured its heart and soul into refining the story and presenting audiences with a vibrant and relatable Xie An, the story's main protagonist, who is a nobleman in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). He defeats an entire army by himself and saves millions of lives through his superior wisdom and courage.

Li Zhengcheng, the lead actor and winner of the Plum Blossom Award, China's most prestigious theatrical award, said the performers set higher standards for their voices and performances.

"Our performances are the essence and life force of the entire movie. I hope that this movie gives audiences from across the country an opportunity to enjoy Yangju and inspires them to learn more about it ," Li said.

Yangju Opera, with a long history dating back to the reign of Emperor Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty, originated in Yangzhou and subsequently achieved widespread popularity in Shanghai. It takes advantage of various other art forms, like Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera, while still adhering to a traditional storytelling style that is simple but full of life.

The movie will also be aired in Yangzhou soon.
