China Intelligent Boat Challenge, the first advanced competition for intelligent boats, was staged in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, from June 14 to 16.
Sixteen boats developed by 11 domestic universities and institutions competed in the event, testing their skills over a 15-kilometer course through the Grand Canal.

Some boats were designed to be light and agile, some featured a twin-hull structure, while others took the form of submarines and weighed over 400 kilograms.
Boats were embedded with cutting-edge technologies, including unmanned piloting, intelligent navigation, and automatic obstacle detection and avoidance.
A forum on China's shipping industry was held on the sidelines of the event.
