Various scenic spots in Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, will hold colorful activities to celebrate the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival holiday, which lasts from June 3 to 5 this year.
Visitors can try making zongzi, or sticky rice dumplings often eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival, at Geyuan Garden on June 3. A total of 15 families are also welcomed to make paper dragon boats there.
A series of performances will be staged at the Slender West scenic area on June 3, including local opera shows, Chinese instruments performance and puppet shows. Children can also try to make scented sachets in the scenic area. The sweet-smelling sachet contains cinnabar, realgar and aromatic herbs to help expelling parasite.
Heyuan Garden will host book sharing events on June 3 to introduce the origin and history related to the Dragon Boat Festival. Students and their parents are also welcome to visit the scenic area to pray for good examination results and experience folk customs related to the festival.
Beihu Wetland Park will organize an event allowing children to make five-color silk strings to ward off evil, a tradition of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Visitors can enjoy camping and fishing in Yanhu town during the holiday. Yanhu town is hosting the Fishing Cultural Tourism Festival, a good chance to learn intangible cultural heritages related to fishing in Yangzhou.
