Wonderful views, food, and intangible cultural heritage items of Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, were promoted to foreigners in Europe in a short video series titled "Grand Canal Taking You Home".
Running from Beijing in the north to Zhejiang province in the south, the Grand Canal has a history of more than 2,000 years. As a UNESCO world heritage site, it not only contributes to economic development but also brings bumper harvests to crops in areas along the canal.
In the aforementioned short video series, Italian chef Nino, who has been living in China for many years, assists Chen, editor of food magazine Gourmet, in writing a feature story on "The Taste of Home". They visit Chen's family along the canal to experience different flavors of Chinese cuisine.
Yangzhou was one of the four places they visited to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine while learning about the local culture and customs. Viewers can follow along and see the beautiful scenery of Yangzhou such as Daming Temple, Slender West Lake, Geyuan Garden, and Dongguan Street, learn local intangible cultural heritage techniques such as engraving, guqin (a seven-string traditional Chinese instrument), and paper cutting, and taste Huaiyang cuisine such as Yangzhou-style morning tea, salted duck, and lion's head meatball.
The short video series was translated into multiple languages and will be available on various mainstream media in European countries and major video platforms at home and abroad.
