Three things you need to know about Yangzhou Maji

Maji is a small town in Yizheng, a county-level city in Yangzhou, in Jiangsu province. Though small, Maji has all it takes to become the next big thing as a tourist hot spot.

1. Salt-water goose

The salt-water goose dish in Maji is quite famous in Yangzhou and even across the country. It was placed on the list of Yangzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage years ago.

Timing and temperature are the twin key elements of cooking a tasty goose. According to the chef of a time-honored brand in Maji, it takes more than 5 hours to do the deed.

2. Blackberry

The blackberry, originally from North America, has been successfully grafted onto the rich soil of Maji. With nearly 200 hectares of area now devoted to planting it, Maji is among the leading producers of blackberries in China.

The town, with its wealth of blackberries, attracts tourists from across the country.

3. Idyllic scenery

Located in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, Maji boasts broad fields. The farmhouses and tea fields present a picturesque pastoral scene.

Those in the know, say it's heavenly to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a night or two in Maji's countryside.
