The Daqiao town in the Jiangdu district, Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province was built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and is an important transportation hub connecting southern and northern China.
Here are some places in the town worth visiting.
Kaiyuan Temple
Built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), this temple is best known for its sculptures.
Daqiao ancient well
The well is located in the Yangshu village of the town and has a history of more than 800 years. Also known as the best-preserved well in the town, this well has been providing clear water for local residents from ancient times till now.
Daqiao ancient street
This charming street is paved with flagstones that run from the east to the west of the town and flanked by houses featuring different architectural designs.
Several notable personalities, including the famous artist Gu Baoshan from the late Qing Dynasty (1636-1912) and the late economist Zhu Shaowen, spent their childhoods playing on this street.
Visitors can also find local delicacies such as mutton soup, tofu and pufferfish here in the town.
