Yangzhou's tourism industry witnessed a strong recovery during the five-day Day holiday, local authorities said.
Dongguan Street received 423,000 tourists during the period, a year-on-year increase of 12.5 percent, official statistic show, while Slender West Lake scenic area was listed among the province's top 10 attractions over the holiday, according to statistics released by online travel agency Trip.com Group on May 3.
The five-day period also saw robust growth in consumption. The sales of 20 monitored businesses, including shopping malls, supermarkets, car dealerships, hotels, and restaurants, in the city totaled 320 million yuan ($46.42 million) during the five-day break, a year-on-year increase of 53 percent, statistics from the Yangzhou commerce bureau show.
The sales of the city's 23 monitored restaurants stood at 33.28 million yuan, up 82.6 percent year-on-year.
