As the Chinese animated blockbuster, Ne Zha 2, continues to break numerous box office records, Yangzhou Puppet Troupe also offers a classic puppet play related to this beloved Chinese fairy tale.

Following a tempestuous night, Ne Zha is born terrifyingly, leading to his social isolation. When an East Sea demon abducts his playmates, Ne Zha, initially reluctant, slays the demon upon his mother's moral guidance, inciting the Dragon King's wrath. Ao Bing, the king's third son, engages Ne Zha in combat and perishes.
Enraged, the Dragon King vows to avenge his son and threatens to inundate Chentangguan. In a selfless act to spare the villagers, Ne Zha takes his own life. Touched by this sacrifice, the king seeks redemption by transforming into an eternal guardian dragon pillar.

On stage, the production employs hologram projection to recreate the East Sea Dragon Palace, offering audiences an immersive underwater experience.
The puppets feature innovative designs, with the "Dragon Soul" standing out as a five-segment, agile dragon spine infused with a melancholic and oppressive aura.

In addition, the play integrates various child-appealing elements, such as masked children performing street dances and Ne Zha donning a pumpkin-themed costume.
Established in 1957, Yangzhou Puppet Troupe has become well-known at home and abroad for its artistic performance style of "blending strength with softness and portraying characters in a subtle and vivid manner", garnering numerous national awards.
