Yangzhou lacquerware, an exquisite intangible cultural heritage item, wowed visitors at the "Grand Canal Meets Rhine River" exhibition, part of the "An Encounter with Chinese Culture: Jiangsu Week of Chinese Folk Music" event, which commenced in Stuttgart, Germany on Sept 18.
At the exhibition, two representative lacquer-casting works immersed German visitors in the elegance and refinement of Yangzhou's cultural heritage.
Having emerged in the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), flourished in the Qin and Han dynasties (221 BC-AD 220), then reached its zenith in the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), Yangzhou lacquerware is renowned worldwide for its elegant artistic style and exquisite craftsmanship.
